you can turn them off and on at will -- can't remember where i got
these aliases i've added to my .bash_profile, but they work well;
i've never checked to see whether the cd is really necessary
alias vmoff='cd /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\
Fusion/;sudo ./boot.sh --stop'
alias vmon='cd /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Fusion/;sudo ./
boot.sh --start'
I actually have something similar setup, I didn't mean to intimate
that you COULDN'T disable them, just that you shouldn't be surprised
to see traffic on them if you have VMware installed. :)
