You can try this to eliminate the cd:
alias vmoff='sudo /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Fusion/boot.sh
--stop'
right, that's what i would have naturally used, and why i wondered if
the cd were necessary for some reason, but i haven't felt like
deconstructing boot.sh to see whether it matters ...
or, if the cd does turn out to be necessary, surround with () to execute
in a subshell and avoid cd-ing in your main shell as an unwanted
side-effect, like this:
alias vmoff='(cd /Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Fusion/;sudo
./boot.sh --stop;)'
... so i'll use that, a quick and _good_enough_ fix, thanks
(btw i noticed when editing .bash_profile that credit for the original
goes to bentley at crenelle.com from this list)
