Well, after a lot of dithering about the last week (I was about set to buy a 27" iMac i5 for about $2000) I finally settled on getting a new mini server which should be arriving tomorrow or Wednesday. The iMac will wait until next year.
Despite using OS X since the Public Beta I've never used OS X server for much of anything. I've seen it a few times and during the beta of some previous release of OS X (10.4?) I even installed it briefly. I'm assuming there will be some on-disk pdf documentation that I should read, breaking with the traditional method of not reading anything and just winging it, but are there other resources out there I should know about? A web site dedicated to OSXS, or a book I absolutely must buy? I'm especially interested in stuff along the lines of "So, you're a Unix admin new to OS X" or "OS X Server for OS X ninjas"; information that treats me as if I'm the designated victim in a three man design studio new to the whole computer revolution is not that useful as I've been running unix servers for a couple of decades. I know that user management is very different, and that's one area I want to mess with, especially having the home folders stored on the server for logins on other Macs. Is there anything different about the mini server specifically? I am also thinking about putting the actual server software on my MacPro instead of the mini. -- Generalizations are always inaccurate. --Mugsy _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list [email protected] http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
