That's what I feared: the App Store basically decides where you should put the 
apps.
Which is a good thing for most of the users and a slight annoyance for people 
who want to do something else.

My copy of TextWrangler is in ~/Applications/text by the way. And it is not 
recognized.


Another quirk is that the app stores are not equal: you can find different 
stuff based on the store you choose... And it does not seem related to the 
availability of localized versions. Plus all the software explanations are in 
English regardless of the store... Unfriendly to say the least...
