Hi,

I have a new mac mini that is connected to my HDTV via HDMI, with no keyboard
or mouse. I access it via Screen Sharing from my mac pro. The video
resolution keeps changing and I think this has been causing other problems as
well.

I have seen at least 3 different resolutions selected when I inspect the
monitor settings. In some cases, it says 1920x1080, which is what I would
expect. In other case, it says 1080p, which I assume should be the same thing,
though I had never seen that option before. And in yet other cases, it does
not list either of these as being available and a lower resolution is selected.

Why doesn't the mini just keep a resolution until I change it? The resolution
keeps changing on its own. Is this some weird HDMI handshaking issue? The
HDTV is turned on and off much more often than I access the mini.

Usually the mini seems very snappy, but there have been several times where it
was extremely slow in responding (e.g., 45-60 seconds just to bring a different
window to the front). Also, there are times where I knew that some icons were
near the edge of my desktop, but they were not visible (probably off the screen
when it's in a lower resolution).

I do not have access to the mini at the moment, but I looked in the logs
earlier and saw some error messages that seemed to deal with video switching
(or something like that), so I am guessing that the nearly-frozen behavior is
related to the video resolution problem.

Has anyone seen this? Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Gregg
