Well, since I was setting up a new machine, I did look at each panel in the 
Preferences app, but I did not mess around with anything in the Universal 
Access module, nor did I change any Display settings.

Even if something changed in either the Universal Access or Display modules, 
could that change (in contrast) propagate through the MobileMe sync process?  
The colors and text are fainter on both macs, not just one.

Though it's remotely possible that I accidentally changed something in the 
Universal Access or Display modules, but I can't believe that I could 
accidentally change the same thing on both macs.  I did sync them when setting 
up iCal, so I wondered if that had something to do with the problem showing up 
on both macs, but that's a wild guess on my part.
