OK, this keeps getting weirder. Preview app was NOT running. I double-clicked
on a PDF on my desktop. The PDF opened with the Preview app and the icon of
the Preview app appeared in the Dock. I closed the PDF and the Preview app
stayed in the Dock, but as soon as I clicked on some empty space on my desktop,
switching from Preview being active to the Finder being active, the Preview app
disappeared from the Dock. All of this was only a few seconds after first
starting up the Preview app, so it's not like it was "suddenly terminated" due
to being unused for a long time (and my Mac Pro has plenty of memory and
nothing much running).

Is this the expected behavior under Lion? I don't want to make Preview a
permanent resident in the Dock, and yet I want its icon to be there when its
running, so that I know it's running. Is this a bug or just the new way of
doing things?

Gregg
