But it could be the two-finger (or similar?) tap to zoom in Safari, which does 
work in Mac Safari.

I also do not own a Mighty Mouse but perhaps you have tap-to-click turned on 
for it and when you do a two-finger action it is being interpreted as a double 
(or single click).

If this is the case you should be able to undo this zoom by doing it again (so 
try double clicking on the text or double-tapping with two fingers or patting 
your head and rubbing your tummy).

Check if there is an option for tap-to-click for the Mighty Mouse.  I use this 
in on the MacBook Pro trackpad and the Apple (Magic or Mighty?) Trackpad.  
Saves all the effort to click ;-)
