Yes, I believe there are certain recommendations for charging levels for lithium ion batteries to prolong their life (but google knows more than me and I am unsure how much of a life extension it will give the battery ;-). I think Apple does the very best it can (with custom software and hardware) to prolong the life of the batteries - they made a big thing of it a while back - BUT, as you mention, they aim to keep it maximum charged. > With that in mind, I'd like to know if anyone knows of software to restrict > the charge level, or any way to disable the charging of the battery while > plugged in. > > The idea/thinking is to keep the battery around 50-60% charged, and leave it > "plugged in but not charging" under normal operation, and when I'm planning > on traveling, then charge it up to full. > > Anyone know of anything for this? This is a great idea. I very rarely use my laptop on battery power (especially now that I have iPad and iPhone). I wish Apple would provide an option in "Energy Saver" to "Preserve Battery" rather than just to keep battery fully charged. This would probably involve maintaining the battery at a level like you mention (50-60%) with trickle charge rather than just not using the battery and letting it empty completely, which I believe is not good for lithium ion batteries. Maybe in Mac OS X 10.21 Super Nova ;-) Cheers, Ashley. > > --- > Entertaining minecraft videos > http://YouTube.com/keybounce > > _______________________________________________ > MacOSX-talk mailing list > [email protected] > http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk -- Ashley Aitken Perth, Western Australia mrhatken at mac dot com Social (Facebook, Twitter, Skype etc.): MrHatken Professional (LinkedIn, Twitter, Skype etc.): AshleyAitken Dropbox stores your files so you can access from any computer.
