To follow up again… ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist had somehow gotten munged. This sort of thing seems to be happening somewhat frequently on this system. First it was com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist and now com.apple.mail.plist. I hope it’s not indication of disk or memory failure. -Carl
