I agree with everything Kevin said. I like iCloud Drive a lot, and it is becoming increasingly important to my daily routines. The inconvenient limitation of some apps to dedicated app-specific folders is a design decision by Apple with which I have always disagreed (although I must admit that Apple is probably right to think that most of its customers prefer not to deal with file systems). I did some exploring a month ago and confirmed that files I put on iCloud Drive from any device are also stored on my Mac, although the naming of the local folders takes a little getting used to (with particular reference to the folders dedicated to specific applications). This is documented somewhere. I don't recommend that you ever use those local copies specifically, but it is important to know where they are because I confirmed that they are backed up to Time Machine and can easily be restored. Multiple safety nets are a good thing. I did recently find one problem, which I have not had time to explore. I saved a TextEdit file to iCloud Drive's TextEdit folder from one Mac, and it did not become available on iCloud Drive from another Mac using the same Apple ID for the several minutes I devoted to the test. I just now -- a couple of weeks later -- noticed that it did eventually come across, but I don't know how long it took. A TextEdit file saved to the same iCloud Drive folder in the other direction from the second Mac during the same experiment did show up on the first Mac almost instantly. Running the same experiment with other iCloud Drive-ready applications did not exhibit the same issue. I wonder if others are experiencing any unreliability, inconsistency or delay in this situation? -- Bill Cheeseman - [email protected]
