I've been getting similar issues with Dropbox and a few other sites. Not
consistently, but every now and then.

Every time I raise an issue to tech support, they suggest that there's
something wrong with the root certificate on my Mac. I don't know if this
is true, but it temporarily fixed the issue for me...though it did recur.

Here is what Dropbox support gave me as instructions to replace the root
certificate:

1. Manually deleted the local copy of DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA

- Open Keychain Access, select keychains

- Select category: certificates

- Search for DigiCert

- Right click and delete

2.Downloaded the root/intermediate cert(s) from
https://www.digicert.com/digicert-root-certificates.htm
<http://s.bl-1.com/h/nTbqZSr?url=https://www.digicert.com/digicert-root-certificates.htm>

- DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA

- DigiCert SHA2 Extended Validation Server CA

- DigiCert High Assurance CA-3

3. Add these certs to Keychain Access simply by double clicking them

- If that doesn't work you can manually import via File > Import

Hope that helps!
