I've brought back to life a 24" iMac from 2006, running only Leopard on 4gb of
ram, and it feels seriously faster than my current early 2011 MBP running El
Capitan with 16gb of ram.

The question is, what can be done to get this MBP to feel a bit faster,
including reboot speed etc.

I'm thinking of eventually installing an SSD disk when I have money but is
there any software solutions that I could use right now ?
