Try creating a new user and running stuff there as a test. If it feels zippy, then you've loaded your usual user ID down with too much bloat.
Another thing I do is boot from a virgin copy of the OS on an external drive (I have these laying around, as I do housecall service). Modulo the speed of the external interface, that gives you an idea of what an unbloated system runs like on your hardware. > On Dec 26, 2015, at 9:22 PM, Jean-Christophe Helary > <[email protected]> wrote: > > I've brought back to life a 24" iMac from 2006, running only Leopard on 4gb > of ram, and it feels seriously faster than my current early 2011 MBP running > El Capitan with 16gb of ram. > > The question is, what can be done to get this MBP to feel a bit faster, > including reboot speed etc. > > I'm thinking of eventually installing an SSD disk when I have money but is > there any software solutions that I could use right now ? > > Jean-Christophe > > > > _______________________________________________ > MacOSX-talk mailing list > [email protected] > http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list [email protected] http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
