I think that’s probably where I went wrong and used the email address as the 
account name.

I’ve checked the account and couldn’t see anything untoward, so yes it’s 
probably some fool typing it in.  I changed the password just in case but it’s 
a good idea to change them every so often - where I work they enforce a change 
every 90 days.

which explains how to create another email address associated with the account. 
 Not sure whether it’s worth creating another separate one via the domain I 
have that is only used with the iCloud account.  Easy enough to do, but may be 
a case of stable doors and horses etc and I could see it creating an unholy 
mess with other stuff linked to the account.
