I recently retired my Airport Express-based audio system for a NAD C338 amp
that has built-in support for both Bluetooth and Wifi. The sound is
incredible - I love this amp. But it turns out, "wifi" support means
Chromecast only, not AirPlay. So I'm giving Bluetooth ATX a try. It works
really well (within line of sight anyway), but the hassle is that my laptop
will not auto-connect to the Bluetooth amp upon wake. Even if I wait 5
minutes after opening the laptop, I have to pull down the BT menu item and
connect to it manually. Even if I "wake up" the amp well in advance. There
doesn't seem to be any setting in BT preferences for this.

Is this normal for Bluetooth audio outputs, or is there something I can
tweak to improve the situation?

Separately: I wonder, now that Apple is getting out of the AEX business,
whether they will loosen the licensing stranglehold on AirPlay and open it
up free to 3rd party manufacturers (NAD says they don't support AirPlay
because it's not cost-free to do so).

Separately separately: I have filed a feature request with Apple to support
Chromecast output natively from iTunes.

Thanks,
Scot
