Even though I probably have fewer apps on my phone than most users, I find
there are still often too many pages and icons to paw through when I want to
use a particular one that I don't use hourly; so I've been a fan of swiping
down from the center of the screen, typing the first few characters of the app,
and having iOS find it for me.

I've recently come across some very strange behavior.

A few weeks ago, I added "Messenger," a Facebook app that is the only way I can
video-call my mother on the Facebook Portal device that my niece gave her. If I
swipe down from the center of the screen and start typing "Messenger," iOS
absolutely refuses to find it. It shows me web pages discussing Messenger, the
Wikipedia page about it, e-mail messages with the word in it… and even the
Messenger area in Settings!… but not the app itself. It's 100% consistent… and
I've never seen this behavior happen for any other app.

Now, on my wife's phone, iOS finds it immediately. So I'm assuming that none
of you would see this fail.

If this were my Mac, I'd flush and rebuild Spotlight. Is there an analogous
operation for iOS?
