I can only compare creating perl apps on my Mac with what I've used already.
BBEdit and MacPerl work great together but the porting of my work to a unix
server is clunky and a PITA.

I've installed 3 flavors of Linux on my PowerPC's but I could never get
Apache running on a LAN or configure Web access. I guess I'm not geeky
enough.

There are some things I'd like to see in both OS X and BBEdit but I still
believe it's a better perl developing environment than OS 9 can offer.

Please don't, Chris. I'd really like to hear more. Why continue to develop
perl on OS 9? Are there any real advantages? It always seemed to me that
creating apps with perl on OS 9 was too platform dependant. MacPerl is a
great piece of software but it lacks the necessary componants to really make
it work for me. I never had much luck getting modules updated and there just
isn't a good web server that's inexpensive for OS 9 to run my cgi's.

I've already read reports of perl 5.6.1 being successfully compiled on OS X.
The same goes for the latest versions of Apache and MySQL. I could go on
about the other opensource and free software that's already been
successfully ported to OS X but these mentioned show how fast OS X can take
advantage of opensource software updates. That's something OS 9 can never
do.

What I'd really like to see now is a perl module that lets me create apps
that use the Aqua GUI and access the graphic capabilities of OS X. I'd like
a "Perl Installer" that lets me choose which modules I want to install. I'd
like to see BBEdit have a "Run CGI in Browser" button and I'd like a ......

OK, now I'll shut up ;)
