        Most likely this module is related to installer packages in 
some way. The only reason I can imagine that it is installed is 
that perhaps installers can use perl to do parts of their 
install actions. Or maybe it's just a mistake -- I don't know. 
If you poke around in your /Library/Receipts directory, you will 
find that many packages (maybe all, I didn't look that closely) 
contain some sort of *.bom file (which seems to be binary). If 
I'm not mistaken, BOM is an acronym for Bill Of Materials. All 
of this seems to indicate that it is indeed part of the software 
packaging/updating system that Apple uses.
