In fact, you could probably create a hints file for 5.6.x that 
would let you use release numbers in /Library/Perl/ but not in 
/System/Library/Perl/ (so as to not get in Apple's way).  That 
would probably work pretty well, I think.  But it would mean 
that you'd have to rearrange some things in /Library/Perl/ if 
you've already installed some modules there.
