Now to throw myself headlong into the world of wxperl.

For the benefit of the archives:

Downloading and installing Xcode 1.5 worked for me, but the download is only 
available from connect.apple.com (not the usual downloads page or the 
developer.apple.com download page).

To verify if you have the required files (bundle1.o, crt1.o etc) you can run 
the following from the command line:
ls -l /usr/lib/*.o
