Heh, I just struggled through a DBD::mysql install today ( mine
was a different error and ended up being a bug in MySQL), but I
suspect like me you'll find Sherm's excellent instructions from
a while back helpful:

Specifically, using look to open a sub shell:
look DBD::mysql
so you can run the commands manually.
