Yippee! I have now done the happy dance.

Oh! -- I wonder why? -- attachment usually works. Never mind.

I've kind of lost the original but the last try worked with no
hitches at all. Basically I had misunderstood how 'MacPerlConfig.mk'
should be written. The 'macos' build took 30' 02'' and the 'macperl'
8' 32''.

It really is remarkable that a newcomer like me, knowing next to
nothing about MPW builds, can get a beasty of this complexity and
intricacy to work with only a few false starts. It's a great tribute
to the joint authors, I think, who deserve much congratulation. It
really is a formidable piece of work.

All three versions MacPerl, MacPerl.SC and MacPerl.PPC all run on
this 8600/MacOS 9.0. Two things however to report are:

        i) Hooks.pm is missed out in the build
        ii) Offscreen graphics doesn't work -- I guess the 5.2.1a1 mods. haven't
           carried over into 5.6.0d1?

Well, for my own peace of mind I kind of feel I want to get to grips
with it. Aside from anything else I would like a quicker 'macperl'
build for the editor project. Just PPC might halve the time perhaps.

Thanks (Chris and Paul) very much for help over the last two days.
