I've had the same type of problem for several months. My posts to the list
and email exchanges with the BBedit people have yielded no explanations. I
can crash my machine by checking a syntactically correct script that is less
than 10 lines long. I thought I had narrowed it down to comments at the
beginning of the scripts I was checking, but I couldn't find a consistent
pattern to it. 

Let us know if you find a solution.
