Yeah, those two seem pretty basic to me.
Another favourite of mine, is tab handling. Maybe the editor should not
attempt to display tabs properly. Maybe it could just convert a tab
keypress into a sequence of 1 to 8 spaces, up to when the cursor
position reaches a multiple of 8.
