GD is GPLd and if anyone wants an older version(1.3) of the source with gif support 
I'll set it up on an ftp or web mirror.
I don't know if anyone ever noticed but gd didn't even use LZW gif compression. The 
only reason I can think of that gif support was removed(seeing as it apparently did 
not infringe on Unisys patents) was some sort of silly FSF zealotry.
