But the architecture of the machine that did the build has nothing to do
with build_arch...

It should have, otherwise it would be cross-compiling to another arch ?
(which is interesting in itself, but not supported by MacPorts afaik)

Not sure if it matters if the "extra" fat architecture is ppc or x86_64,
when talking about +universal archives built on the regular i386 arch ?
