Gnucash finished installing and left me the following message.
---> Activating gnucash @2.2.8_0+no_x11+without_hbci+without_ofx +without_quotes
Warning: When you run gnucash, if it pops up a window saying:

Warning: it is probably because it cannot connect to
Warning: the DBus server. Either place the following in your login
Warning: shell profile:
Warning:     eval `dbus-launch --auto-syntax`
Warning: or invoke gnucash via 'dbus-launch gnucash'. Note that with
Warning: the latter alternative you may end up with a stray dbus
Warning: process after you quit gnucash.
--->  Cleaning gnucash
Sure enough, Gnucash spit out the error above so I edited the .profile in my home directory and added the line directed.

Opening a new terminal window now causes the following error message.
Failed to start message bus: Check-in failed: Permission denied

EOF in dbus-launch reading address from bus daemon

What do I do now?
I didn't remember any discussion of this on the list, but there is a track discussion which I found just now, so this part is fixed. Just restart the computer.

I just edited the Gnucash OS X wiki to tell people to ignore the message quoted above and just restart their computers. I don't know how much this will help.
