I looked back at the pango discussion earlier this month and don't think this is the same things, but I could be wrong.

Pango repeatedly failed when I upgraded, when in installed pango +no_x11 and now this way. Cairo shows up - wrong version perhaps? I'm in over my head here.

MLHPBG4:~ mlh$ sudo port upgrade pango +no_x11 +quartz
Password:
--->  Building pango

[snip]

viewer-cairo.c:34:24: error: cairo-xlib.h: No such file or directory

MLHPBG4:~ mlh$ port installed cairo
The following ports are currently installed:
  cairo @1.8.6_3+macosx+no_x11
  cairo @1.8.6_4+macosx+no_x11+quartz (active)

That looks like this ticket:

So far I have not had the time to try to reproduce the problem on my system. If you can figure out what is wrong, let me know. You could also consult the developers of pango on their mailing list.
