i have good experience on C and some shell scripting. i want to contribute some of my free time for macports.

Thanks! We're always looking for more contributors. There are many areas where you could contribute. There is documentation to write, new portfiles to write, existing portfiles to update, base features to be implemented. The Google Summer of Code page in the wiki shows some of the projects we're currently looking for help on. I'm not sure which of those will be picked up by students for this year's GSoC. But you can also just search through the large number of open tickets in our Trac issue tracker; I'm sure patches to resolve any of them would be appreciated.

P.S: Most of MacPorts, including all portfiles and most of base, is written in Tcl, though there are small parts that are written in C for speed or out of necessity.
