I'm a new(bie) MacPorts user and as a first project I'm trying to get postfix, dovecot and mysql working but am running into problems with dovecot. It appears there's no +mysql variant available. There are a couple tickets showing discussion and a patch file from many months ago <http://trac.macports.org/ticket/17709 > but I don't see anything after that. If I've somehow missed it, I apologize.

I'm not quite sure how to proceed. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll resolve that ticket shortly.

I am pretty sure I am CC'd on that ticket, if not, I will try to keep an eye out. As soon as you have the mysql variant in place...

Also, MacPorts dovecot is at 1.1.16 while the dovecot.org release is at 1.2.10. Is there a typical duration between version updates for ports?

No, there's no typical duration. It depends on the port maintainer. Please file a ticket requesting the update to 1.2.10.

Once the mysql variant is in place, I will see what I can do about bumping this to 1.2.10. I have never really been sure about diffs that extend beyond diffs that have not been applied, I have a feeling it just makes things messy. For that reason, I will hold off to get the clean new port, and then work on a copy here to get it to 1.2.10 unless jberry in anxious to do so himself.

I've been using my own port dovecot 1.2.9 for a while which I built to get dovecot-sieve which I also have a port for.

dovecot @1.2.9_0+darwin_9+mysql5 (active)

I'll update my dovecot to 1.2.10 and submit a dovecot diff, the whole portfile and a dovecot-sieve portfile.
