MacPorts base works on Tiger and newer. MacPorts 1.8.0 and up do not compile on Panther anymore, and this was not thought to be a big problem, since Panther was already 6 years old at the time. Officially, we support the current Mac OS X release and the preceding one—currently Lion and Snow Leopard. That means support for Leopard and earlier are waning.
