Most SSDs have a smart attribute that lets you know how much wear is left on 
them (I have a Samsung SSD with attribute 177 and a Micron with attribute 202 
which run from 100 down to 0 when the drive is 'used up')

I haven't had any personal drives around long enough to tell if they're likely 
to die before then or not (I have backups on spinning rust). With my usage 
patterns, I'll almost certainly end up wanting to replace these drives before 
they get down to 50% anyway...
