[Mactel-linux-users] synaptics freezes for gtk programs

I installed gentoo on my macbook with kernel 2.6.18.  Things seem to be working well, but I'm having a strange problem with the synaptics driver.  When I start X, it works fine, but when I start a GTK program (mozilla, gaim, etc) the mouse completely stops responding.  Any ideas what might be causing this?
