Currently I'm running it on a self-compiled 7.2 X server, but one week
ago I just installed it against my Ubuntu Edgy X7.1 and it was working
nicely.

I simply did:

$ git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel
$ cd xf86-video-intel
$ git checkout modesetting
$ ./autogen.sh

and then copied the two resulting libs over the ones provided with my
installation.
