Hi all, I was about to post on that issue a few weeks ago, as it began to happen to me (macbook pro, first version) when I upgraded from kernel 2.6.17.* to 2.6.18.*, all with mactel patches.
After some googling and some attempts at debugging (really tricky to get those first kernel messages as they scroll very fast and the ethernet interface is not brought up early enough for netconsole to be or any help), I figured it had something to do with the SATA controller sometimes not starting correctly (or early enough). On the one hand it seems like a hardware issue and on the other hand, it worked okay with previous kernels and with OSX. So far I haven't come up with any solution, other than rebooting until it passes through that root partition mounting phase. Sometimes waiting a few seconds before selecting the penguin on rEFIt helps... but that may be only autosuggestion. :/ -- /* This is not a comment */ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
