I have a terrible crackle/distortion on the left output of my coreduo MacBookPro 17" with any linux distro. The crunch/crackle is the same in OpenSUSE, Fedora 6, Mandriva, and my currently installed distro, Ubuntu Feisty Beta. The problem is not present in OS X or (gasp) Windows Vista. It sounds the same through onboard speakers, headphones, or external speakers. The right channel sounds perfect.
