Hi, > It was to be a replacement for my iBook G4 which (admittedly running > OS X) had up to 6h of silent and cool operating time in it's heyday.
it's not powerpc, it's an intel, what do you expect? ;-) It also has several times the power of the g4. I cannot say much on the macbook but there is a intel tool for linux out there that shows you which components suck how much power out of the battery. Also you want to use cpu frequency scaling and acpi (which should work with feisty) Maybe someone else can say more about the fan control What you really need to test: Running ubuntu from the hard disk, not the live cd. CD/DVD drives usually use a lot of power How is battery life when running osx? > To be frank I'm this close to sending it back. Just not yet :-) But one thing I have to say: just for classroom/library use you're way better off with the ibookG4. I fully undestand you if you send it back just because of the noise, this high humming sounds are really anoying. /me still using the TiBookG4 (1 GHz) Michael
