Thanks for the feedback.

I'm running  2.6.20-16 on Ubuntu Feisty on the Mac Mini.

I don't know how similar the audio hardware is in an mbp to a mac mini, 
so its not clear if a kernel upgrade would help me.

I did run the same mpgs through OS X and Linux on the box, and the OS X 
is definitely louder, So that does give an indication that there is a 
Linux issue.

Any one else with low audio issues?
