i saw that you asked a couple of questions in the #mactel-linux IRC channel:

<genelisp> does anyone have a working synaptics config? I've tried
various 'example' configs, but they make the cursor fly round the
screen...

back on June 3rd, i sent an email to the "Synaptics configuration"
thread on the mactel-linux-users mailing list with my synaptics
configuration attached. check that out and see how you go.

<genelisp> I get lots of these in dmesg: applesmc: wait status failed: 5 != 54
<genelisp> applesmc: wait status failed: c != 58
<genelisp> how can I fix this?

yeah i get this a lot too. i read somewhere..it might've been on the
mailing list..that these aren't important and can be ignored.

<genelisp> has anyone got alsa working?

you know better than to ask a "has anyone got XYZ working?" question!
;) what's your specific question?

<genelisp> does anyone know which modules to load for the remote
control? Mine doesn't generate anything with xev

check out this thread on the mactel-linux-users mailing list. be sure
to read the whole thing before diving into appleir/lirc:
"Anyone with appleir module working in 2.6.22.1???"

hope that helps!
