Hi Matthew,

You can activate the zoom feature with Command-Option-8 or from the
Universal Access menu under System Preferences under the "Seeing"
tab. If you use the Universal Preferences menu, you can also set
options, such as the default zoom magnification range, if you press
(VO-Space) the "Options" button. Then you can change magnification by
holding down the Control and Option keys together with the
"equals" (or "plus" when shifted) key to zoom in, or by holding down
Control and Option with the "dash" ( or "minus" when shifted) key to
zoom out. If you have a scrolling mouse attached, you can also hold
down the control key and turn the scroll button to zoom in or out.

The options I configured for somebody who used the zoom were:
maximum and minimum rapid zoom range (interact with the sliders for
each) This is the zoom range you get when you hold down the Command
and Option keys and tap the equals/plus or dash/minus button.
Holding down the button will continue to zoom in or out.

smooth images

when zoomed in, the screen image moves only when pointer reaches an edge

This was for someone who only required a mild zoom, and found it
distracting to have the screen image continually update. There are
also options to show the preview rectangle when zoomed out, and to
have the screen image move continuously with the pointer or so that
the pointer is at or near the center of the image.

Press the "Done" button when finished setting zoom options to return
to the Universal Access Page. It can also be convenient to check the
box to "Show Universal Access status in the menu bar" so that you can
check which features are turned on (like zoom, mouse keys, etc.) by
using VO-M twice or Control-F8 and your arrow keys.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther
