From what I've read elsewhere the iPods have the same hardware 
limitations as the non-3GS iPhones have which prevent them from 
supporting voiceover. So the going assumption/rumors is that the next 
iPod refresh in September will bring the hardware up to par, at least on 
the iPod touch, so it can use the same gesture and speech system.
