That is correct, you make the change in System Preferences, but making  
the change is not necessarily going to increase performance either.  
The Mac will switch if I recall correctly for graphics intensive  
processes. The option is in System Preferences, Energy Saver and look  
for graphics. This will be a radio button you set either for better  
battery life or better performance. Just not sure how much performance  
increase there will be. Think I'll have to try it out and honestly I'm  
not sure how much it would affect battery life either and something  
else to check into.
