Did you make any progress with this? I was remembering that there is an "encoding" header in e-mails that might suggest the language the message was sent in. I don't know enough about internationalization to know if ISO 8859-1 is just for English or for all Latin based languages.
Has there been any progress on a active mailing list for development of blind friendly extensions to Macintosh systems?
