Hi,

If you're seeing your iCloud/PhotoStream photos when in iPhoto on your Mac, 
then they're likely already downloading automatically to your Mac.  To confirm, 
go into iPhoto, press cmd-comma to get into iPhoto Preferences then select the 
iCloud pane in the Toolbar.  The "My PhotoStream" should be checked and the 
"Automatic Import" should be checked as well.  I don't check the "Automatic 
Upload" as it fills up my iPhone too quickly when photos get uploaded from 
other cameras into my PhotoStream.
