Hello Tristan, TextEdit works perfectly well for reading long texts. It sounds as though your verbosity settings need changing. Set your verbosity to medium, then in the Text tab, set punctuation to some. Set When encountering a misspelled word: to either play tone or do nothing.
When I read with TextEdit, I never hear "New line" and the reading doesn't stop with misspelt words. You should always interact with the text for the VO commands to work correctly.
