Hi,

As previously mentioned, you can change the name of the computer from within
the Sharing pane of System Preferences, but this only changes the name of the
computer and does not affect user accounts in any way. You can also change the
Display name of the user account, but cannot change the Short name. To
clarify, the Display name is the name that shows up at the Login screen whereas
the Short Name is the account name within the Directory Service and is the name
assigned to the user's home folder. So, if all you want is for the user to
have their own name displayed at the Login screen and don't mind that the Home
folder will have a different name, then this is entirely possible. You just go
into System Prefs, in the Users & Groups pane, click the Lock to unlock the
pref, then modify the Display name Edit field. This should not be confusing to
the end-user. If you want everything to be changed over, you will need to
create a new user account. this is common across most directory services
including Windows Active Directory, Chrome OS and Macintosh Open Directory
account structures.

HTH.
