Not knowing how familiar you are with voiceover on the Mac, there is a voiceover tutorial when you first turn on your new Mac that will help guide you through the basics in order to help you get around and understand the minutia of voiceover. In the event you have not seen it, I'm posting the link to their getting started guide table of contents. I sincerely hope it helps you. Voiceover has its own set of keystrokes, however understanding the mac keystrokes within each program will also help. It continues to be a work in progress. Don't give up.
