You can't boot from the Time Machine backup like you can with Superduper or Carbon Copy Cloner. I agree with your sentiments however it is one of these occasions where perhaps using third parties offers benefits set out from the built in ones.

Hi all,

I have always been of the opinion that if there is viable software on my device
to accomplish a certain task, then there is no reason to install additional
software that duplicates built-in functionality, unless that additional
software brings some kind of added value. Is there any reason why one would be
better off with one of these apps than with time machine? Time Machine has
always worked for me, though I have never had a hard disk crash, so haven't
really had to put it to the test. But I have restored from Time Machine
Backups onto new Macs, and that process has always gone quite well.
Cheers,
Donna

It can be used as an alternative to Time Machine.

I haven't compared the two but Superduper looks good. You can if I'm correct
back up for free with nag screens once in a while to register. Some things are
also not available for free.

Any thoughts welcome on which back-up programme works better with VoiceOver? I
want to create a bootable back-up of my mac. I am leaning towards Carbon Copy.
Thanks. Regards Janine
