Hi thanks for the reply according to apple that will not work because they have enabled find my iphone with a password and to be able to restore the phone I have to turn off find my iphone so I think the thumbscrews will have to come out so just a word of warning to others don't loan your phone to people and let them turn on apps because yu can end up with a brick like me
